This evil and dark art was created on the slopes of of the mountain leading to Helheim itself, with the help of Thor, and the all mighty Skaal. This mighty piece of frostbitten evil and despair was done to appease the Great Scholar who has taught my wombless self for almost 5 full moons. With Odin by my side, I was able to create a blasphemous and purid etching that will forever storm the hearts of all the christians who ever dared to invade our fatherland.
Hail! Hail! Hail the might of the frostbittenly dark North!
(This was the final task for this semester in Drawing course. The focus was composition - strategically placing all the objects in a way that will frame the focal point, and lead the viewer to it. But of course the rest of the elements play a key role as well, like charachter development, perspective and so on. The assigment criteria were to make a composition, with either a calm/peaceful or intense/frightening mood. And it HAD to include: A church, a person, gravestones, and an old tree. Being familiar with the norwegian black metal scene in the mid 90's, the idea for a metalhead burning down a church came to me in about 0.3 seconds. Smoke/fire effects were a bitch to create since its the 1st time I ever draw flames and smoke in a realistic way.... even though I had some degree of success, it still looks lame.... but oh well - practice will perfect it. Hope you like it, and any critique is warmly (frostbittenly ) wecome.)
LOLOL!!! u couldnt' write a better "artist's comment"... hehehe the drawing is awesome, BTW...

I love those trees - the white outline on them gives them a fascinating look. And I like the light flowing out of the top of the church into the clouds - very impressive. But the crumbling wreck looks a little too clean and clear cut for a proper collapse. I also like the angle of the composition, it gives it more of an action-kinda feel.
Yeah.... this drawing is far from perfect.... and I'm glad you point those things out.... I'll keep them in mind for my next pieces... but I'm glad you liked parts of it as well
And yeah... that angle is exactly what we learned in class... the whole thing of how angled ground plane gives a very action like feeling to any piece....
Thanx for checking it out and the honest critique

Anytime Personally, I kinda appreciate the fact that you encourage honest critiques - you don't find a lot of people (especially online) who want to improve rather than just hear about how awesome they are... If that even makes sense.
Adding on to that, sugar-coated fake adoration doesn't help art grow, it just keeps it the same. I'm not naming names, but there are several WAY-overated people on this site who everyone apparently adores and borderline-worships who haven't improved their techniques in several years and who'll never improve 'cos no one's going to tell them to do otherwise (granted their art is sometimes great, but there is ALWAYS room for improvement) 'cos they're all too busy brown-nosing. But that's just my evil rant... Sorry...
